About Shine a Little Light
What is Shine a Little Light?
Shine a Little Light in its most simple terms, is a project. Something that has brought individuals together, working towards a goal; to make parents and children have a more relaxed time while visiting the hospital. Somewhat of an oxymoron you may think, however, it is always easier to face a challenge with people thinking of you, than to feel isolated and alone. Shine a Little Light was developed on this premise. Whether it is through actions or items, Shine a Little Light is there for the Parents and Children who make and have made this daunting visit.

Shine A Little Light was founded with the purpose of bringing a smile to those who are not in the brightest situations. Providing children with a small stuffed toy may not seem like a big deal, but to the child receiving it and their family it is a reminder that someone out there cares.
The first campaign was spearheaded by a small group of local businesses in 2017 which included Murphy’s Law Distillery, Elmira Home Hardware, Elmira Harvey’s, and Baby Charlotte. Together, and with the support of the community and the members of Twin City Masonic Lodge #509, over $5000 was raised at one event at Murphy’s Law in November 2017. Collectively nearly 400 Jellycat Teddy Bears were delivered to Grand River Hospital the week before Christmas, along with nearly $4000 in food vouchers from the Elmira Harvey’s.
The second campaign was Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 at 2:00 pm, and for the first time in Elmira, the Woolwich Memorial Centre was open for a Craft Beer, Wine, and Spirits Event! This adult-only event allowed participants to sample from numerous distilleries, craft breweries, and wineries, from across Ontario. Vendors included Murphy’s Law Distillery, Block 3 Brewery, Social Lite Vodka, Junction 56 Distillery, Cox Creek Cellars, Jack Ass Brewing, North Works Brewing, and Innocente Brewery. The ENTIRE proceeds of this event went to support Grand River Hospital Foundation specifically the Pediatric Units.
